Our utility costs have gone down since we installed a new furnace (gas) and air conditioner. We use BGE for gas and electric. Our average bill this summer was $140 and averaged $230 in the winter which is REALLY great for a house this size. Our water is serviced by Baltimore City and after discussing water bills with friends in other counties and states, we know you cannot beat Baltimore City water, our average water bill is $40 a quarter.


Fifteen years ago knowing we needed more space, we started our house search. After looking at many different houses in Catonsville, Relay and Elkridge, we came to 13 Highfields Drive in Catonsville. We knew immediately this would be our home. We loved that the room sizes on the main level are great for entertaining and the 5 bedrooms would give us plenty of space for our growing family.

What we love about our home is entertaining! We have plenty of room on the main level, basement and spacious deck for all groups and ages. We love the view from the front living room; there are pine trees with an open field behind them. This is especially beautiful on snowy days. The house backs up to the large yard of one of the original old Catonsville houses so sitting on the back deck is so peaceful and private.

Across Rolling Road from our neighborhood there is an entrance to the Patapsco State Park for great access to hiking or biking – being this close to nature has been wonderful! It is easy to forget that we are only 6 miles from Baltimore and 30 miles from Washington DC.

We have LOVED our location because we are just minutes from downtown Catonsville but it’s also a BREEZE to get in and out to 95 from our house which means we can get places really fast!


In Highfields, we discovered that families who move into Highfields stay for a long time we believe this is a sign of a good neighborhood. Our neighbors are very friendly and help each other out, by shoveling walks and driveways after a snow, or picking up mail and keeping an eye on each other's homes during vacations. Our HOA sponsors a gathering at a neighbor’s home for families who Trick-or-Treat and for Santa who comes to the neighborhood via the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department.

We love living in Catonsville, especially the 4th of July celebrations. We can walk from our house to the Catonsville fireworks. Some of our favorite restaurants in Catonsville are Chef Paolino's, Peace of Pizza, and Ships Cafe. Nearby restaurants we like are Misson BBQ, Mi Pueblo and Guiness. The grocery store we use is the Giant, less than 2 miles away, and just a little over 6 miles away are Wegmans, Costco, and Trader Joes.

We moved to Baltimore County because we like the central location. We are close to Baltimore (10 minutes), Washington (40 minutes) and Annapolis (25 minutes). BWI airport is less than 10 minutes away. Three MARC stations (Halethorpe, St. Denis and BWI) are within 7 minutes of the home, and Light Rail into Baltimore is also within 10 minutes.

The public schools that serve our neighborhood are well rated. Though our address is Catonsville, the Arbutus branch of the Baltimore County Library is a 3 minute drive from home. It was built approximately 9 years ago with a senior center and rec center at the same location. When it snows, our neighborhood receives plowing and salt as the county is finishing clearing the major routes that surround but do not interfere with our community. For our children we had the choice of three different recreation leagues for sports (Catonsville, Arbutus and Elkridge) within 10 minutes of the house.
